You are the enemy! Yep, that’s right, you are the enemy. Too often in our lives when things are not going so well we love to blame the devil for the bad stuff that happens or why things are the way they are. Satan certainly plays a significant role in my life to do everything possible to keep me from having an intimate relationship with my Heavenly Father, but the truth is, SO DO I!
I realize that many of you reading this right now are disagreeing with me on the title of this post and that’s fine, I can handle that, but I must warn you of something though…. You just proved my point. We live in a world full of narcissist that believe they never do anything wrong and it is always someone else’s fault. So many people refuse to take responsibility for their own actions which ultimately tells me you are the enemy. I honestly think some people don’t know they aren’t perfect. SHHHH, don’t tell them, they will tell you that you are wrong.
You might be wondering why the topic, well when I am working with a coaching client and I hear them say “I just cannot seem to get unstuck in life” my very next question is “so what have you tried up to this point?” The answers to this question vary but nearly every time they blame someone or something and very rarely do they accept responsibility for their own lack of success. When we start to uncover the real reasons, it usually comes down to a belief system OR they are just flat out too lazy to do what it takes to get unstuck.
I want to give you 3 ways to avoid being your own worst enemy:
- Accept responsibility for your own actions. No one made you do anything you didn’t want to do in life. You chose to sleep in late rather than get up early and go for a jog or go to the gym, ultimately leading to being overweight and unhealthy.
- Change your mindset. So much of our being stuck revolves around the “labels” that we place on ourselves. “I am not good enough” or “God did not bless me with an outgoing personality.” Those are all self-imposed labels and limitations which really are your enemy.
- Hire a coach. If a coach is good enough for Tiger Woods and Derek Jeter then trust me, you are not too good for a coach. BTW, you haven’t been able to get unstuck without one, maybe you should try something different, it just might help.
You are the enemy! Stop getting in your own way. Make the decision today that you will stop being your own enemy, trust me when I say Satan does not need the competition, he is way too powerful on his own. Go out, watch your thoughts and your words today. Share this with someone that you know can use it. Leave me a comment below on how you are your own worst enemy.
