It has been said that when you love what you do you will never work another day in your life. So many people find this hard to believe because they have worked so hard in a job or career that is just not fulfilling to them. I know, I have been there! Maybe that you is you right now.
I don’t know if you recognize the guy on the right but that is one of my closest friends in the world. Donnie Lewis is one of those guys that would do anything in the world for you and never mention it again or want anything in return. I truly wish I had the gracious heart that Donnie has. Donnie is the tour manager for the gentleman in the middle, and if you don’t recognize him that is Peter Frampton, the ROCK legend.
Both Donnie and Peter have become great friends over the years, but that is not the point of this post. You see, Peter was performing last night here in Jacksonville and I was able to watch the show. If you have ever seen Peter and his band perform then you have seen a man who is passionate about what he does. There is no doubt in my mind that he loves music; writing, performing and just playing for hours on end.
If someone showed up to your job or business would they see the same fire in your eye that I saw in Peter last night? I would imagine for many of you the answer would be “no.” I want to give you four things that you can begin doing right now to change that:
- Hire a coach. If you are in the same place today that you were five or ten years ago it may be time to find someone who can give you some direction, insight, assist with a vision and hold you accountable.
- Take a risk. Opportunities will cross your path quite frequently as they do mine. When an opportunity comes that catches your attention it may be that God has dropped something in your lap that could change your life. This may be a business opportunity, a transfer or just a nudge to go out on your own. I can promise you that if you decide to stay right where you are now nothing will change other than the color of your hair.
- Look at your hobbies. Do you realize that more businesses have been started because someone saw an opportunity to monetize their hobby? What is it that you are already doing that could turn into a lifetime of fun, freedom and financial security?
- DO SOMETHING. You many be saying, yeah Scott these all sound good but I can’t afford to hire a coach or I am not a risk taker and I don’t have time for any hobbies….. Well first off, you can’t NOT afford to hire a coach. A coach that is good at what they do and your desire to transform will be worth 10X what you paid for their services. Maybe its time you take a risk and just DO SOMETHING.
Being a life and leadership coach I love pushing people to live beyond their limits and while watching Peter and his band perform last night I just reconfirmed that the fire in my eye is definitely coaching. If you ever get a chance to see him perform, GO! His passion for music is certain to bleed over into your life.
