From Pro to Amateur Part 2
Last week I wrote part 1 of this blog and so much has taken place since I started. Over the weekend I hosted a Peak Performance Summit in Nashville, TN. I looked out over the crowd on Saturday and I saw people from all over the country and from every walk of life; those overcoming abandonment, homeless, to those growing up with money and everything in between. The weekend was absolutely amazing.
I wanted to share part 2 of this blog with some tips to avoid going from Pro to Amateur. We all know someone that is a ‘pro’ at what they do. We often associate a pro with other terms such as executive, NFL football players, CEO or something very similar, but the truth is, to think you have to have one of these titles to be a ‘pro’ is truly just a myth or lie that we tell ourselves.
My definition of a ‘pro’ is someone who chooses to leave it all on the line everyday, doing what they love and what they were put on this earth to do. Yes, fear will set in, setbacks will happen and obstacles will get in your way. The amateur will stop but the pro will continue to move forward.
Below are three steps to avoid self-sabotage and going from PRO to AMATEUR:
- Be completely aware of what your fears are and where they originate from. Knowing and understanding this is half the battle to defeating them. Fears WILL set in and you will have a choice; to either let them defeat you or to let them push you to succeed. Fear can be a motivator if you allow it to be.
- Reaching pro status requires you to be a lifelong learner. Reading is one of the best ways I know of to continue your learning process. I have a library full of books as well as a full Kindle. When you stop learning, you stop growing and start going backwards.
- Surround yourself with people that are better, smarter, wealthier and stronger than you are! Some have a tendency to look at these people as competition. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing, the competition itself will oftentimes become the focus and not the overall vision.
BONUS STEP:
- From this point forward, (YES, right now!) begin thinking like, and telling yourself that you are a PRO. Live like a pro, eat like a pro, learn like a pro, lead like a pro, BE A PRO! I’ve seen so many people reach the top and destroy it all in a matter of just a few decisions, because they didn’t see themselves as a pro. Forget what others think about you. They will still be right where they are a year from now, while you are living your purpose. Stop! You’re doubting yourself. YOU ARE A PRO!
Most, if not all of you reading this book have self-sabotaged something you have tried, been a part of or actually been successful with, at some time or another. You can choose today to stop the madness and begin living the life that you deserve.
The choice is completely up to you.
